Celebrating 5 months old in California

Today our baby boy is five months old. Each month surprises me more and more. I can't believe our boy is 5 months already. He is a beautiful, charming, funny, sassy, happy, growing boy! Last night Jay got off work at 6:30 and by 7:30, we were in the car on our way to Windsor, California. Every year my dad, Lori, Jacob, me, and now Jay and Carter spend a few days at a Worldmark resort about an hour north of San Francisco. We swim a ton, go to Giants games, and play in San Francisco. We decided to drive all night instead of waiting to leave till Monday. We didn't want to miss out on any of our days here. Carter slept for about an hour and a half, ate, slept another three hours, ate, and slept the next 5 hours until we got here. He was amazing!! I drove about three hours in two segments to give Jay some breaks and he drove the rest of the time. He is an amazing man! We pulled in here at about 6am, fed Carter and we all went to sleep for three hours. Then we were able to spend our day here rather than driving. We took Carter swimming for the first time and he loved it! He loved splashing and kicking at the water. His first time swimming was actually very special for both of us. He is just growing up so much. Last year I was about 12 weeks pregnant when we where here and everything we did I would always think about the next year and how we would have our baby with us...and here we are with our little man. We have had a great day today. When we get home on Saturday I will post pictures, unless I can figure out how to do it here on the laptop. :) Tomorrow we are meeting Jake, Marci, and the kids at Marine World, Six Flags.

And now to talk about our Carter man at 5 months old...
-Carter is all smiles, most of the time!
-He started eating cereal and veggies this month. He loved cereal, butternut squash, green beans, and carrots. He didn't really like peas. I am also trying to make my own baby food which is super fun.
-He has decided he doesn't want to keep sleeping through the night. He goes to bed between 8 and 9 and gets up anywhere from 3 to 7. There is no way of telling when he will wake up but it is getting better.
-He is so good at going to bed. Both naptime and bedtime he just talks in his crib for a couple minutes and then falls right to sleep.
-He rolls all the time. We can't keep him in the same place anymore. Most nights he wakes up on his tummy.
-He actually says mamamama all the time! You might not believe me but he does! I know he doesn't know he is saying mama but he at least has the sound down for sure!
-His face lights up when he sees his mommy or daddy.
-He is constantly talking and making noise. He has figured out how to use his tongue to make raspberry sounds. It is our favorite new thing that he does.
-He is sitting up really well on his own but we stay right there to catch him.
-He has the sweetest personality!
-He is in size 2 diapers and moving into mostly six month clothes. A lot of his 3-6 month clothes still fit him but anything that is only 3 months, he is growing out of and moving onto the 6 month size.
-At 4 1/2 months he weighed 16 lbs. 9 oz and was 25.5 inches long. Weight was in the 70th percentile and height was in the 55th percentile.

Thank you God for giving us this special blessing!

Diapers and baby food...

I just wanted to share my opinion on diapers. I am really amazed at how different each brand of diapers are and how some can be wonderful and hold everything in and others...I ask myself why I even had a diaper on him. So far out of four brands of diapers that I have used, I know that I like huggies and kirkland and I don't like pampers and luvs. I am curious if others have the same opinion as I do.

Now enough about diapers and I am sure some of you are thinking it is ridiculous that I even put that on my blog but I am seriously frustrated that all diapers don't work the same. This is after having poop half way up my arm before I realized that his diaper had not worked at all!

Now onto baby food...
I bought Carter five little jars of baby food this week and tried the peas last night. Let me tell you...he hated them!! He amused me and continued to eat them but made the cutest/saddest/funniest face every time he had another bite. So funny!! Today I decided to try making my own baby food which I am super excited about! I did zucchini squash and yellow squash, peeled them, cut them into pieces, steamed them, and mushed them up in my little mixer thing. I got the great idea from my friend Amanda to put it in ice cube trays and freeze it! Carter loved it!! He made a face for the first bite and after that I couldn't get the spoon in his mouth fast enough! I am so excited to make his food for him and am looking forward to trying different veggies and eventually fruits.

Oh and Carter is rolling over so well now. A few nights ago he just decided he was tired of only rolling one time and then getting stuck on his belly and he just took off. He rolls all over and runs into things now too. Of course it seems like when a grandparent wants to see his new trick, he just lays there and smiles at them. But he really can do it and he does it a lot!!

4th of July

Carter's first 4th of July. We had a nice day. We went to church and then came home so Carter could get a good nap. After his nap we went to Jay's mom's for lunch and then to the Stayton parade. Carter was really into the parade. He watched everything go by. He was really fascinated by the little old men riding around in their motorized bath tubs. He also liked the horses and fire trucks. Although he missed one fire truck because they were spraying everyone with water so i threw a blanket over him. On our way home we stopped by the capital and walked around the grounds and all the water fountains. It is really pretty down there. We decided not to go watch fireworks this year because of Carter's ears and bedtime. I know, we are party poopers. Next year for sure. We kind of missed them! Jay and I rented a movie, put Carter to bed, watched our movie and then laid in our front yard and tried to see other peoples fireworks. It was a nice day with my two favorite boys!

His new shirt for the 4th!

Watching the tractors.

His teddy bear that a girl in the parade gave him.

Daddy and Carter making silly faces.

I can't figure out how to get a video on here so a picture is the best I can do. This was his first time eating cereal. He is 4 months and 2 days old.
